At the U9 level, I believe that my predominant role as coach is to encourage individual skill development, dynamic and creative thought and healthy competition. My coaching mantra is that “in order to have fun you have to work hard and in order to work hard you have to have fun.” I am not very concerned about winning games. I am however, very focused on improvement from one practice/game to the next. One of my biggest challenges is to help players exceed the standards that they set for themselves. I attempt to do this by designing fun, competitive practices where individual players are praised for their positive effort and achievement. Lastly, I aim to create a unified and spirited team so that our team maintains a dedicated group of players who enjoy a lifetime love of soccer.
